Last night at the Uptown was Glen Campbell's Goodbye Tour. Normally I have a ton of pictures and videos of the shows, but they had a no camera policy last night which was fine with me. Probably for the best too since some couple said I was annoying because I was checking my phone about the NFL Draft during the opening act. (FYI, if you don't want anyone annoying around you, you probably shouldn't leave the house or go to a concert)
Despite that, it was really a great show. Glen has been quite public that he has dementia and he has a really hard time with details and remembering things. It was very obvious in some places and in some places you would never know.
He sang so many of his hits from Wichita Lineman to Galveston. He may have been looking down at the words a few times, but his voice and guitar playing was top notch.
He closed the show before the encore with "Rhinestone Cowboy"...he looked happy to be there, happy to be with his kids and just happy to have fans appreciate his career.
When he came back to play "Southern Nights", a crowd that was too old to stand the entire night except to clap stood for the entire song...they just wanted to make sure that Glen knew one more time that they loved him and wished him well.
Not every concert has an emotional weight like last night, but Glen Campbell showed how to have class and why he is such a giant star.
