Montgomery Gentry Concert Recap - Kansas City 8/30/12

To contact us Click HERE
Last night, the last concert of the 2012 Hot Country Nights Series at the KC Power & Light District was held...it was Montgomery Gentry.

I have been to almost all the country concerts held there.  I have never heard the crowd louder in their cheering and singing along...the crowd was so loud that it almost drowned out the music (which was loud).

Here is one of their best songs, "Lucky Man"....

There was so much energy in the place last night, from the crowd, the songs, Montgomery Gentry...I had never seen them before and I am so glad I went...

Another one of the songs that the crowd went completely nuts for...."Roll With Me"...

Montgomery Gentry is very patriotic and sings about small town and America...the crowd for sure ate it up.  You also forget how many songs they have had on the radio...

And finally, here is "My Town"....

Overall, it was a great night that topped off a great series of concerts over the summer...sad it is over but can't wait to see who is there next year.

Colt Ford & Sunny Ledfurd Concert Recap - Orlando, 9/07/12

To contact us Click HERE
Last night in Orlando at the House of Blues, Colt Ford and Sunny Ledfurd played a packed house...

Sunny Ledfurd was up first and he is one of my favorites...I am sure he lives a much wilder life than I do, but I just love hearing his crazy songs about being on the lake...

Here is one of his new song "Something Between Us"...

Lots of people in the crowd has no clue who Sunny was but I think they really started liking him...he was so fun that he won them over!

He even did a little rapping during "Good to be a Redneck"...

And here is one of his biggest songs, "Nickel Sized Hail"...

Next up was the man they were all there to see, Colt Ford...

Colt Ford is getting crazy popular these days...his recent album just went #1 which is a little crazy...

Here is the first track, "Answer to No One"...

The crowd was singing along all night with Colt....it was pretty wild.

Here is another new song..."All In"...

And another new song, "Hugh Damn Right"

I have seen Colt Ford quite a few times and he just keeps better and better...and House of Blues in Orlando is a great place to see a show.

Billy Currington and Jake Owen Concert Recap - Hutchison 9/15/12

To contact us Click HERE
Last night at the Kansas State Fair, Jake Owen and Billy Currington played the main stage.  It was a beautiful night outside with two young stars.

Jake Owen has a new EP coming out in a week or so...here is one of the songs off of that, "Summer Jam"...

I have seen Jake Owen a ton of times over the years and it is so nice he is coming into his own now.  He puts on a great show and now has the radio hits to back it up...

Here is one of his first hits...."Yee Haw"

Jake Owen has a mixture of rock, country and summer love that is fun....I think playing a state fair is the perfect place for him.

I think Jake Owen really enjoys doing covers...here is a really good one, one of the best Alabama songs "Lady Down in Love"...

I think if Jake played the Kansas State Fair again, he would be the headliner.  The crowd was going crazy for him and almost everyone was in their seats when he started...

A great song, "Heaven"...

Here is another one of the new songs, "Pass a Beer"...

Jake is coming to Kansas City in December on the CMT Tour, I can't wait to see it...

And here is another cover...."Jump"...

Next up was Billy Currington, he came right out of the box fired up and ready to go...

Here is your most typical Billy Currington song, "Pretty Good at Drinking Beer"...

I have not seen Billy do a concert for a while..he has so many more songs now than he did last time.  He has lots of songs that have been on the radio that you don't remember till he starts playing them...

Here is one of my favorite songs he does, "Love Done Gone"...

Billy is working on a new album, he said he was around 3/4 done with it....He said this will be his new single, I think it is called "All Day Long"...

And speaking of songs I like, here is "Like My Dog"...nothing like bringing your dog on stage during the song to show exactly what he is talking about....

Overall, it was such a great show.  Billy and Jake was pretty much co-headliners....look forward to seeing both in the future.

Thompson Square/Reckless Kelly Concert Recap - Cornstock 9/22/12

To contact us Click HERE
Last night in Garnett, Kansas the annual Cornstock festival was held.  The performers were Thompson Square, Reckless Kelly and local artist Travis Marvin.  The concert was held on a hill in the park...it was a very full and enthusiastic crowd.

First up was Travis Marvin....he seems to open for almost every concert in the area.  He is from Ottawa which is really close to Garnett.  He plays a mix of covers and original songs.

Here is one of those original songs, "My Woman's Man"...

Travis Marvin keeps touring the area and building his fan base...he has so many people there with his shirts and hats on...

Next up was Texas based Reckless Kelly...

They played some new songs from their upcoming album, here is "Good Luck and True Love"...

There was a funny thing about the set up the show...there was a drinking side and an under 21 side....the over 21 side was really into them and knew all the songs and the under 21 side seemed to be gone to meet Travis Marvin.  Kind of interesting...

Here is the newest single, "Pennsylvania Avenue"...

Next up was Thompson Square....where I had been standing all night, there really wasn't anyone around....right before they came on it got crazy!

Thompson Square kicked it off right...here is "Let's Fight"...

I have seen Thompson Square quite a few times...opening for Lady A, by themselves at PBR in KC, at CMA Fest....I just enjoy them because they have a sense of humor about their relationship and they really look like they enjoy performing together...

They have plenty of hits...here is one of them, "I Got You"...

Thompson Square has been around in Nashville for so long trying to breakthrough, it is good to see their hard work paying off...

Thompson Square is currently in the studio working on their sophomore album...here is a cut from it, "You Don't Get Lucky That Many Times"...

It is always fun to go to these concerts in small towns...it is a big deal and the town comes out to support the show and they are really into it...

I have lots of their songs already on YouTube so I was looking for a different one, here is "As Bad as it Gets"...

Thompson Square has a pretty impressive stage set up for being a pretty new act...they have not quite graduated to video screens but you can be sure that is coming!

And as a married couple they did a great cover of "Jackson"...

Overall, it was such a fun night.  The weather was perfect for early fall, the music was good and the crowd was so happy to be there.  If you have a chance to see Thompson Square, go for it!

Slash Concert Recap - Kansas City, 9/27/12

To contact us Click HERE
Last night at the Midland in Kansas City, Slash performed a concert for our local rock radio station 98.9 The Rock.  They called it a "Low Dough" show so tickets were only $9.89.

He played a mix of solo songs, stuff from Velvet Revolver....but I was only interested in Guns N Roses stuff...Here is "Nightrain"...

Without Axl, you needed someone to sing the songs.  His name was Myles Kennedy and he did a good job...

One of the best songs Guns N Roses ever had...."Civil War"...

It was strange to be there to see the guitarist...he was also always on the other side of the stage as you can tell by the pictures and video.  He was entertaining though, no doubt about it.

And finally here is "Rocket Queen"...

Since Guns N Roses will never get back together, it is cool to see the songs performed live....Slash plays them perfectly still and it is a testament to how good the songs were that I would go there to see a guitarist.

Leatherby's

I prefer frozen yogurt places over ice cream places because I prefer the taste of frozen yogurt. Nonetheless, I would still go to ice cream places. But, I wouldn't go by myself since there's no way I can finish a whole tray or glass of ice cream by myself.

Recently, I went to Leatherby's. At Leatheryby's, I noticed that they have an actual menu for food. But, that's not their specialty. Instead, they are known for their ice cream. I like their options although I can't really handle that much ice cream at one time.

The ice creams that my sister ordered. They both look delicious! And, both of them were good.

PB Chocolate
I liked the PB chocolate more than the Brownie Delight. Although I really like eating brownies! I loved the peanuts with the ice creams. I never thought of that before! I'm going to try to put peanuts on my ice creams from now on.
Brownie Delight
Yum, I love brownies and how it came with the dessert. But, it wasn't the best brownie I tasted. Also, thew ice cream wasn't really a flavor I liked.

I actually took a picture of the receipt to remember what ice cream we ordered. I didn't choose the ice cream that time since I wasn't in the mood and knew that I wouldn't be eating much of it anyways.

Remembering September 11th

You know those days you can't really forget? September 11, 2001 is one of those days that I don't think I would ever forget. There's no denying that 9/11 comes once every year and every time it comes by people do think about what happened to the people and the nation.

I was 10 when I first found out what happened on September 11th. That day, I had school. But, before me and my brother went to school, we always watched "Where in the world is Carmen SanDiego?" All of a sudden, the show stopped playing and was interrupted by some news on t.v.. I remembered a guy saying something happened in New York around 9am? I didn't get to watch the whole thing since me and my brother had to leave for school. But, when we got to school we found out the importance of what we learned on the news.

I know I'm not the only one who won't forget that day. It's a day in history that has become so memorable in America and around the world. What happened on the date helped changed the mindset of many and how we have sought more protection for our nation.

Why I Chose UC Davis

To contact us Click HERE
When I was first applying to universities in high school, I had no idea whether I would be attending one or not or be accepted. I'm quite doubtful of myself and have been described as humble. Nonetheless, that thought did not stop me from applying for admission to a university. I was encouraged to go for certain universities, but not forced. When I was applying my first goal was getting into one. I remembered the moment when I was first accepted into a university. I was sitting in the office with the advisor Sacramento State about how to apply and got some forms done. Once the forms were done the advisor said something along the lines of "Congratulations. you are in." At the at moment, I thought "omg, I really could do this. Maybe I can get into other universities." However, the wait to find out if I got into other universities was about a 3 month waiting process.

I found out which universities I got into a separate occasions. From the universities I was accepted into and was considering for admission was UC Davis, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and UC Santa Cruz. Later, UC Santa Cruz got cut off the list although I would have loved to live next to the beach for college. So, it was between UC Davis and Cal Poly SLO. I had a hard time choosing between the two. They both had their pro and cons. Cal Poly SLO was beautiful, far away, and offered me the opportunity to connect with people who wouldn't know me in a new town. UC Davis would allow me to be close to home and go home whenever I would like. Both the universities were my top choices because they were considered Agriculture schools and had some expertise in that area. My major was Environment Horticulture for both schools. When deciding I thought that I might change my major and to History, which I did end up doing my Freshman year. I was encouraged to go to Cal Poly SLO and it almost became my decision until I discovered that Cal Poly SLO's History program was new. I wanted a History program that was strong and from many different professors, which I definitely received while I was at UC Davis. So, even if I did cry the night I declined Cal Poly SLO and chose UC Davis instead that it was the right decision to make because of what I wanted to study. And, I still stand by my decision today.

Blogging Infrequently

I know I haven't been blogging as much as I used to blog. Part of that reason is that not much exciting things are happening for me to share. The other part of the reason is that I have put other commitments ahead of blogging, so I have dedicated less time to blogging.

But, that doesn't mean that I will stop blogging altogether. I still value my blog too much and believe that I have more contribute. I will stick with this blog because it doesn't make sense for me to quit it.

I do want to post more blogs like I was able to do for most of this year, but I don't think its as possible as before. I think its also because I haven't been able to come up with blog topics or themes as much as before, but I will try to update my blog more as possible when I come up with new ideas.

How I Choose Board Games

To contact us Click HERE
A couple of years ago, my family would probably only have the standard board games that everybody has or know about, such as Monopoly, Life, and Chess. For some reason, my family decided to get more board games and some of them I like and some I don't like. When we started out with those few board games, I didn't really know much about other board games. Me and my siblings decided to get board games we saw in stores or considered popular. But, it changed when we started to pick up more board games and learn more about what we want from a good board game and how each board game is different from another.

Now, I research games before I decide to purchase them. I find it exciting to research games that I might possibly get in the future.

I would check Board Game Geek and The Dice Tower. Board Game Geek provides details of general information on board games, but you have to log in to participate in forums and such. On the other hand, The Dice Tower has a forum, Youtube channel, and top 10 and top 100 list.

I like The Dice Tower because it has different kind of lists about board games, including top 10 and top 100 and not just from one year, but its continually updated through the years. On The Dice Tower's top 100 list, I noticed that there was column for people's choice award, along with the choices of two other people. It's nice to know what other people's impressions are of board games and what they believe are good or popular games.

A good chunk of deciding which game to get next is what category the games falls in. The Dice Tower listed examples of different categories for board games, which I found very useful. I didn't think about it before, but I tend to prefer some games over others. I like "Party/Trivial" and "Take That" kind of board games more than "Roll-and-Move" board games. Board Game Geek also provide categories for each board game, such as "Party Game," "Bluffing," "Humor," "European," and more.

I can't deny that how to play the game is an important part of how I would choose a game. I find that besides the descriptions and reviews of board games, watching other people play gives you a better idea of how to play and what to expect. I have to say that the Youtube channel, geekandsundry is my favorite to watch with a board game theme. I like that he provides viewers with a description of the game, describes how to play it, then, play it with 3 other people who might be Youtube celebrities, video producers and etc. Among one of the videos I watched from geekandsundry's youtube channel was about the board game Dixit and actually influenced my decision on purchasing the board game.

Of course, my decision are also based on reviews, suggestions, and/or friends comments. I choose to spend more time finding out more about board games because I want it to be something I can enjoy with friends and family and be able to play over and over again. Not only that, but I want board games that would allow me to laugh, bluff, or think and simply give me a great experience.

Foo Fighters sell out Charlotte gig in seconds

To contact us Click HERE

There are a whole lot of disappointed and disgruntled Foo Fighters fans in and around Charlotte today. And a couple thousand elated ones.

Foo Fighters announced Monday a rare club show would take place during the week of the Democratic National Convention next month, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday, tickets went on sale for $63 apiece. By 10:01, they were gone. All of them.

The concert, a benefit for Rock The Vote, is set for 9 p.m. on Sept. 5 at The Fillmore Charlotte.

Foo Fighters were in Charlotte last November. At the time, they played uptown's Time Warner Cable Arena; close to 15,000 fans showed up to see the rock band's hotly anticipated Wasting Light World Tour. So it's no surprise Dave Grohl & Co. sold out the Fillmore -- which holds 2,000 folks -- in record time.

So it's now officially the hottest ticket in town ... but if you scored tickets, scalping them won't be easy: Tickets are non-transferrable and can only be picked up at will call on the night of the show. To get your tickets, you'll have to present a valid ID plus the credit card you used to buy them.

Among those who weren't fast enough Tuesday morning: The Observer's pop culture writer and the Observer's music writer (both of whom typically have access to review tickets). Even the director of marketing and promotions for the Fillmore had to "get in line" with everyone else -- and he ultimately came away empty-handed, too.

New Gap ad features Concord's Avett Brothers

OK, not exactly "Just In," but...

Concord-based The Avett Brothers have hooked up with The Gap for an ad that's part of the retailer's "Fit for Originals" fall 2012 campaign. Scott's on the banjo, Seth's on the guitar, the snippet is from the song "Live and Die."The commercial went on YouTube Aug. 8, but has just started getting noticed.

The Avetts have taken a little heat from fans about the spot, which has some crying "sellout" -- though others are saying hats off to The Gap for showcasing "real" music.

What do you think of the ad?

Tabloid report: Emily Maynard caught cheating

To contact us Click HERE

Are "Bachelorette" star Emily Maynard and Jef Holm splitsville?

Just weeks after the couple went public with their engagement following the summer edition of ABC's hit reality-dating series, US Weekly is reporting that Holm caught Charlotte's most famous single mom cheating on him (this according to a FoxNews.com story).

According to the report, Holm discovered naughty texts and pictures from another guy on Maynard's mobile phone. US Weekly's source claims: "Jef and Emily went into a bedroom and were yelling" during a vacation with Holm's family. "He said, 'You've been (expletive) cheating on me for months!'" He then allegedly told Maynard to "Pack your (expletive) and get the (expletive) out."

Now, remember: This comes from US Weekly. Take it with a shaker of salt. Especially considering the fact that Emily's Twitter feed is overflowing with tweets that suggest everything is just hunky-dory. Just Monday, she tweeted, "The happiest I've ever been in my life with my two favorite people in the world. I love you to the moon" -- along with a photo of herself with Jef and daughter Ricki, 7.

Six hours ago, she posted a photo of Jef with a cat and added "Love him even more now."

In 2001, Maynard got engaged to Brad Womack on "The Bachelor," but the couple didn't last long. Ricki's father is the late NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick.

Emily, Jef: Reports of cheating totally false

To contact us Click HERE

The tabloids -- gasp! -- were wrong.

FoxNews.com today published a story (citing US Weekly, which cited "a source") that Utah entrepreneur Jef Holm had dumped Emily Maynard because he caught her trading naughty texts. A few hours later, People.com rebutted the story, citing much more reliable sources: Maynard and Holm themselves.

Maynard, the 26-year-old single mom and recent star of ABC's "The Bachelorette," told People that reports of an epic fight during a family vacation in Myrtle Beach last weekend are "one hundred percent not true."

"It's funny to me," Holm is quoted in the People story as saying. "We were in a gated community in a private home with just my brothers and sisters. It's just bogus a 'source' would [say] we were fighting. None of that is true."

People reports that the couple dropped off Maynard's 7-year-old daughter Ricki at school together on Wednesday.

"I have never been more in love or felt more confident about our relationship," Maynard told People.com Wednesday. "We're so excited about the future and to be back in Charlotte and things are actually happening – looking at places to live and going to school. I'm happier than I've ever been."

Another plot twist in 'Bachelorette' cheating story

To contact us Click HERE

OK, what in the world is going on here?

First, a report started circulating Wednesday that Charlotte single mom Emily Maynard had been caught cheating and was kicked to the curb by fiance/Utah entrepreneur Jef Holm (see story here). A few hours later, People.com broke a completely contradictory story after interviewing Maynard and Holm, who denied the breakup rumors. "It's one hundred percent not true," Maynard said.

Sounded pretty good to us. After all, why would the couple have any reason at all to lie about this? And yet, US Weekly seems pretty determined to not let this go.

The magazine is reporting today that Holm's brother, Mike Holm, witnessed the whole fight between Maynard and Jef Holm, which allegedly involved explicit text messages Maynard received from another man. According to reports, this happened during a family vacation at a beach house in Pawleys Island, S.C.; many members of Holm's extended family were present, as was Maynard's 7-year-old daughter, Ricki.

Mike Holm told US Weekly: "I can tell you that it's all 100 percent true. I was there and I heard the fight and watched the whole thing go down, Emily leaving and everything. I love my brother very much and, like the rest of our family, I just want him to be happy."

Obviously, someone's not being 100 percent truthful. But who is it?
